Prof Mark Rylatt

Professor Mark Rylatt Principal Investigator

Mark has also been an investigator or senior researcher on several large scale multi-disciplinary projects concerned with city scale energy modelling, low carbon energy technologies and smart control. He has a background in real-time computer systems, GIS and artificial intelligence. He has published in numerous peer-reviewed international academic journals and is a member of the EPSRC College. He sits on the advisory board of the wholeSEM consortium at UCL, which is a key part of RCUKs new strategic energy modelling initiative.

Professor Subhes Bhattacharyya Co-Investigator

Professor Subhes Bhattacharyya is an internationally renowned energy specialist working on global energy-environment issues with more than 25 years of experience. Subhes specialises in energy, regulatory and environmental studies from a multi-disciplinary perspective taking techno-economic, governance, and management and policy aspects into consideration.

Dr Peter Boait

Dr. Peter Boait Co-Investigator

Peter is a Senior Research Fellow at the IESD with research interests in smart home technology and the smart home/smart grid interface based on his DMU patents leading to development of practical products that are being taken to market by Wattbox Ltd, of which he is Technical Director. His work with Rylatt on the CCC project (EPSRC) led to development of an improved control regime for heat pumps (a key area of technology in current electricity network policy) currently being field tested. He has provided consultancy to Ofgem on opportunities for energy service companies, another key focus for possible futures.

Dr. Peter Mallaburn Co-Investigator

Peter's research interests include Climate change and environmental policy, History of energy efficiency, Decarbonisation of commercial and public buildings, Corporate climate change strategy development and Financial vehicles for delivering energy efficiency He has been closely involved in climate policy since it took shape in the UK and the EU in the late 1980s. I set up the Carbon Trust and ran Salix Finance, the government’s main public sector capital investment vehicle.

Dr Vijay Pakka

Dr. Vijay Pakka Researcher

Vijay is a Senior Research Fellow at IESD with research interests in Smart Grids, Electricity Markets, Agent Based Modelling and AI techniques. He has a background in electrical & electronics engineering specializing in power system analysis. He is responsible for the design and development of the Engineering and Market modules on the CASCADE-AMEN projects. He has a PhD from the University of Southampton on investigation of complexity issues in regulatory networks through stochastic dynamics. His current research interests are on decentralization of grid operations, effect of high penetration and active participation of DERs, active demand side management, and bidding strategies in short term balancing markets. He has published in several peer-reviewed international journals and conferences. He is a member of the IET and a reviewer for one of its journals.

J. Richard Snape Researcher

Richard is completing a PhD thesis on the use of Agent-based modelling to investigate the combined effect of policy and individual decision making on PV adoption. He achieved a First Class BA and MEng in Electronic and Information Sciences at King’s College, Cambridge, developing a benchmarking solution for adaptive cruise control with sponsorship by a large automotive company. His research interests include the effect of large scale introduction of distributed and sustainable energy sources into the electricity distribution network and the effect of consumer behaviour on overall energy consumption. He has already published in several international journals and peer-reviewed conferenced proceedings.
