Mr Selvaraj S. Naicker is a PhD student at IESD since January 2009. He is researching in the area of “Geothermal systems for low carbon heating and cooling of UK buildings” under the supervision of Dr Simon Rees and Prof Li Shao.
Selvaraj received a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Madurai Kamaraj University in 1996, and a Masters of Technology degree in Energy Engineering from Regional Engineering College Tiruchirapalli in 2000. He has more than five years' experience as a lecturer teaching undergraduate Engineering courses in Tamilnadu, India. In 2008, Selvaraj finished the Energy and Sustainable Building Design course at the Institute and was awarded a MSc degree.
Mr Naicker is interested in the applications of building simulation software such as IESve and the approach to integrated building design for optimal energy efficiency. Ground Source Heat Pump systems have received increasing interests in recent years, due to their potential contribution to carbon emission reduction in non-domestic buildings. The aim of his PhD work is to investigate the feasibility of using hybrid and passive geothermal systems in UK buildings, quantifying potential carbon emission reductions and developing suitable design through computer simulation methods. |
