Divine Tuinese Novieto is an overseas full-time research student at IESD working towards a PhD in thermal comfort since October 2008.
Divine graduated from Ho Polytechnic Ghana in 1999 and proceeded to Brunel University West London UK graduating in 2005 with MSc Building Services Engineering with Distinction and winning the Leslie Zizeman Memorial Prize for best student.
Divine has worked as a lecturer and as Head of Department of the Building and Civil Engineering Department at Ho Polytechnic, Ghana, teaching courses on building services, construction technology and human relations in the construction industry. He has also worked as a presenter and producer of the campus radio station Volta Premier FM 98.1 MHz.
Divine is co-founding partner and director of Dual Dreams Company Limited a registered consultancy company based in Ghana specialized in building construction, construction management, environmental sustainability and media relations and he is also the design consultant of EverGreen Homes a subsidiary of Dual Dreams Company Limited.
Divine’s PhD aims to critically examine how aging may affect thermal comfort with particular interest in the older population who are generally more prone to discomfort, stress and thermal-related health issues. In the 2003 heat wave, excess mortality was 33% in those aged 75 and over.
The IESD is the home of the IESD-Fiala Model, a sophisticated human thermal comfort model that will be used in Divine’s research. The model is the result of collective development during the past 10 years; and has been extensively validated to predict human thermal responses in a wide range of environmental conditions. Divine’s research is expected to expand the capabilities of the model to incorporate the challenges posed by ageing with regards to thermal comfort. |
