Carl joined the IESD in April 2008 to do a PhD in conjunction with the University’s Sustainable Development Taskforce. Prior to joining the IESD, Carl completed a BSc (Hons) in Management, before undertaking voluntary work in East Africa. This led Carl to become interested in sustainability issues and onto the Masters programme at the Institute, where he completed the MSc Climate Change and Sustainable Development, gaining a distinction.
Carl followed the MSc with a brief spell at a local authority as a Sustainability Officer, before returning to the IESD to undertake his PhD. His research focuses on the environmental values, beliefs and norms of DMU staff, looking at how they correlate with the acceptability of proposals that the university could introduce to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Carl is also using social network analysis to understand the characteristics of ties within the University, and to understand how these ties influence values, beliefs, norms and acceptability of emission reduction proposals. |
