Rick Greenough is a Principal Lecturer at the IESD and an engineer with a background in the aircraft industry where he worked in manufacturing development. He studied Engineering Science at Oxford University, Industrial Robotics at Imperial College and has a PhD from Cranfield University. During his PhD research Rick aimed to improve manufacturing efficiency through better maintenance of process plant.
Rick's research interests include reducing waste energy, material, human effort and cost through better management of maintenance and operations in the factory. He is also interested in reducing industry’s demand for energy through on-site generation, where practical.
Before joining IESD, Rick worked at Cranfield University where he supervised over 80 MSc students and 11 PhD students. He has worked with many manufacturing organisations from large aerospace and automotive manufacturers to SMEs, mainly in the area of manufacturing systems design and improvement. Rick is designing a new MSc course for the IESD which has a working title of ‘Energy and Industrial Sustainability’. |
