Topic 1: Introduction to Resource Use and Pollution
Provides an introduction to the main resource and pollution types (renewable, non-renewable, stocks, flows and so on).

Topic 2: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
Examines the strengths and weaknesses of conventional LCA through the use of case studies. The possibility of proceeding to Life Cycle Evaluation is assessed.

Topic 3: Environmental Accounting
Considers the prospects for sustainable environmental and social practice at the level of the firm or other organisation. The phenomenon of ethical investment and shareholder activism is also considered.

Topic 4: Resource Use Principles
Considers the efficient, optimal or equitable use of different types of resources. Particular attention is paid to energy resources.

|
Topic 5: Principles of Pollution Policy
Reasons for the existence of excessive levels of pollution are explained and the various remedies are considered. Global climate change policy is examined in particular detail, looking at the potential impact of tradeable permits and the Clean Development Mechanism.

Topic 6: The Problems of Transport
Transport (especially road transport) provides a convenient case study that draws out many of the issues raised earlier in the module. Technical, social and economic aspects are considered.
