Topic 2: Human Causes of Climate Change
This topic examines the causes of climate change from various perspectives: psychological (e.g. people's understanding of environmental issues, awareness, concern, motivation, attitudes and behaviour), social (e.g. the role of communities, NGOs, businesses, local authorities and so on) and societal (e.g. issues of culture including the role of the mass media).
Topic 3: Human Consequences of Climate Change
This topic explores the consequences of climate change for people and society. It specifically addresses issues of health and forced relocation as a result of climatic events.
Topic 4: Behaviour-change Strategies for Addressing Climate Change
This topic examines the diverse approaches currently taken by policy makers to persuade people to alter their attitudes and behaviours in order to mitigate climate change. As well as summarising approaches, students are encouraged to take a critical view of the strengths and weaknesses of each. The roles of specific UK organisations promoting change are explored (e.g. Energy Saving Trust, DEFRA, DTI, Energy Efficiency Advice Centres).
