1st Annual PhD Conference

Friday 21st May 2010

Mission

The aim of this conference is to explore current advances in built environment, energy and sustainability research and their associated disciplines. Papers reporting research proposals and work in progress are especially welcome. In particular, papers should focus on new research themes and topics and should demonstrate innovation and insight, have well defined research aims and objectives, and discuss research strategy and methodological issues. The conference is open to all DMU postgraduate research students engaged in research related to the conference theme. Students should submit a short abstract (up to 200 words) and, if accepted, a paper of between 2,500 and 4,000 words.

Topics

We are interested in papers covering a range of energy and sustainability themes, including, but not restricted to:

  • Built environment
  • Energy use
  • Sustainability
  • Public attitude to climate change
  • Environmental technology research
  • Thermal comfort
  • Urban energy management & policy
  • Daylighting
  • Renewable energy
  • Smart metering / energy grid
  • Low and zero carbon technologies
  • Socio-technical issues
  • Behavioural and social factors of climate change

Submission of Abstracts and Keywords

Abstracts in the region of 150-200 words, and up to 5 keywords, should be submitted in an electronic format using this form to Ms Clare Perry cperry@dmu.ac.uk. Themes have been identified to expedite the refereeing process and may change by the time of the conference to reflect the papers submitted, so don’t worry if your paper does not fit a theme exactly.

Submission and Publication of Full Papers

Full papers should also be submitted in an electronic format to Ms Clare Perry cperry@dmu.ac.uk. They must be between 2,500 and 4,000 words and follow these guidelines.

If the paper is accepted, author(s) will be invited to present the paper and have it included in the published annual conference proceedings (on CD). It is a condition of inclusion that at least one of the authors attends to present the paper at the conference.
